Hi there
As you can see by my last post I have been away from commercial diving for a while, when I was working before all the gear was supplied. Has this changed now? I am looking for work in the Middle East or civils work in the UK.
Thanks for your help guys
Clive

If you are going to the ME, don't take knives or tools. Coveralls will be supplied and dive gear but you might want your own hat liner plus
Flipflops, pillow case, rig boots, one cup cafetiere

Might have slipped a few places since then....!
As far as stuff to take, then what used to be in your bag will still apply pretty much. I'd go for hat liner, tool bag and the basic tools, as many books as you can carry, iPod, iPad, laptop etc (although I would be careful with the 'programs' you have on those if you seriously want to go to the kingdom)
as you well know, there's always safety gear hanging around even the grottiest DSV, but if you don't want foot-rot, boots, and gloves if you have the space.
I'd get networking if I were you- SS7 were desperate for pre-98 air diver's a few days ago for jobs off holland, and there's more Air diving in the North sea to come- Technip, ISS, KD etc. If you have a decent CV and a medical, you can explain away the time away from the job and you'll be more experienced than most of the boys on the job.

Thanks Bagshy, I think pretty much the diference these days will be the avialiblity of the internet for comunicating with back home, yes tools boots etc are the same. How would you explain the gap in the CV? I have filled mine in completely but its not relavent I was a skydiving instructer for 10 years then had my own company diving for golf balls good money but not very extreme diving! max depth 15 ft! As far as networking is concerned I look at this forum and Longsreath any other ideas? I will call those companys on monday. thanks for all your help

I'd just be honest, dude- if you put enough detail in your previous diving experience, then one line stating skydiving instructor, and your own diving company looks pretty good- youdont have to go into specifics, the fact that you were still in the industry is fine. The boom of about 5 years ago, and the pay increase had guys coming back to the industry after big gaps. It doesn't really matter- the companies still just want bodies. As far as websites, longstreath is the main one, cdiver.net occasionally have something interesting, www.dive work.com have some jobs coming up occasionally, but Facebook is by far the best way to keep up to date- rack your brains for guys you used to work with and companies you used to work for, and would like to work with, and start networking!
